The association also appealed to the Federal Government, the Federal Ministry of Health and Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan to remain committed to the actualisation of the specialised healthcare facility for the benefit of the people.
The Psychiatric Hospital, facilitated by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, was initially slated for the Adavi Local Government Area of the state before controversy set in. However, in a letter dated 19 October 2026, and addressed to Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, the EPA said the reported development was unexpected, given the initial excitement and appreciation expressed by the proposed host community towards the project.
The letter, signed by the association’s President General, Dr Oyibo Godwin, acknowledged the importance of the proposed hospital to healthcare delivery in Kogi Central and commended the Federal Government, the Minister of Health and the senator representing the district for their roles in advancing the initiative.
In a related development, the Ihima Chieftaincy Council in Obeiba-Ihima, Okehi Local Government Area of Kogi State, has offered to provide land and security support for the proposed psychiatric hospital should the authorities consider relocating the facility from Adavi District to Ihima.
The council, in a separate letter dated 19 October 2026, said it was prepared to provide suitable land for the project, adding that the offer represented the collective position of the six indigenous clans in Ihima District.
It also pledged to provide adequate security for workers, construction equipment, and other facilities before, during, and after the project’s completion.
The council expressed its readiness to collaborate with Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan and other relevant authorities to facilitate the establishment of the specialised healthcare facility in Kogi Central.
However, the proposed relocation remains subject to further consultations and the necessary decisions and approvals by the appropriate authorities.
The two interventions come amid controversy surrounding the proposed psychiatric hospital, with the EPA urging stakeholders to sustain their support for the project, while the Ihima Chieftaincy Council has indicated its willingness to host the facility if given the opportunity.
