Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang called out for her silence on Obuasi SHTS sexual abuse scandal

Ghana’s Vice President, Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, has faced intense criticism for her silence on sordid happenings in the country.

Many believe that, as a mother figure, she needs to speak out on matters arising in the country, especially when it comes to women.

However, her silence has been loud in recent times as discussions centred on sexual abuse of teenagers have been in the news.

To many, she has not proven to be an effective leader and has not been able to play her role as the Vice President of Ghana, being the first female to occupy the position.

Ghana’s Vice President’s last post on social media was on October 19, and it was about her attending the 2026 Global South Academic Forum in Shanghai.

Several Ghanaians, especially on social media, have called her out for her utter disregard for the welfare of Ghanaian women, considering her silence when it matters most for women in the country.

They believe that she has not made a case for her position, and that does not make a better case for women in politics.
