The Nigerian Exchange (NGX) rebounded on Tuesday, adding ₦410.86 billion to equities market capitalisation as bargain hunting lifted industrial and consumer goods stocks. The All-Share Index rose 632.79 points to close at 245,911.13, while total market value advanced to ₦159.67 trillion.

The rally followed renewed buying in stocks including HBM Nigeria, which gained 6.76%, Unilever Nigeria, up 5.83%, and NASCON, which rose 7.31%. The market’s recovery came alongside mixed trading activity: total volume declined 0.19%, while the value of shares traded increased 43.52%.

According to a market note from Atlass Portfolio Limited, investors traded approximately 348.75 million shares valued at ₦25.88 billion across 32,639 deals.

UBA accounted for the largest share of trading volume at 13.86%, followed by FCMB at 8.67%, Zenith Bank at 6.05%, GTCO at 4.62% and Dangote Sugar at 2.67%. Aradel led by transaction value, representing 19.82% of the total value traded.

Austin Laz led the gainers with a 9.97% increase, followed by ABC Transport at 9.92%, Cutix at 9.91%, Thomas Wyatt at 9.77% and Caverton Offshore Support Group at 9.76%. Lasaco Assurance gained 8.57%, alongside 22 other advancing stocks.

On the declining side, Livestock Feeds fell 9.76%, the steepest loss reported, followed by Guinea Insurance at 7.78%, NPF Microfinance Bank at 5.75%, Mutual Benefits Assurance at 4.69%, AIICO Insurance at 3.06% and NGX Group at 3.03%.

Market breadth was positive, with 28 stocks gaining and 21 declining. Three of the five major sectors advanced: industrial goods rose 1.17%, consumer goods gained 0.29% and oil and gas edged up 0.01%. Banking and insurance each declined 0.15%.

Atlass Portfolio Limited’s market note provided the reported trading figures, including the volume, transaction value and number of deals. The supplied material contains no direct quotation from the firm or an independent analyst’s assessment of the rally.

The rebound restored value to the market after a period of weakness, but the advance remains selective. Whether the recovery develops into a broader uptrend will depend on continued buying and improved participation across the sectors that declined.
