Man United injury update on Kobbie Mainno, Marcus Rashford and Luke Shaw

According to a report by Manchester Evening News on Tuesday October 20, 2026, Manchester United have provided an update on Kobbie Mainoo, Marcus Rashford and Luke Shaw ahead of their Champions League clash against Como, with Michael Carrick dealing with several injury problems at a crucial stage of the season.

The Red Devils are expected to be without nine first-team players for Wednesday’s trip to Italy, leaving Carrick with limited options as he attempts to end the club’s disappointing run of six matches without a victory.

Mainoo, Rashford and Shaw are among the players unavailable for the encounter, although their recovery timelines differ.

Mainoo is recovering from a muscle problem and is expected to remain sidelined for approximately another 10 days. The midfielder has already missed two matches this season, and his absence represents a setback for Carrick, who considers him an important part of his plans.

According to the Manchester Evening News, Mainoo could return around October 30, although the date remains an estimate rather than a confirmed comeback.

Shaw is also facing a spell on the sidelines after suffering an injury. Carrick confirmed that the England international would need longer to recover than Mainoo, with the full-back expected to be unavailable for several weeks.

The report lists November 3 as Shaw’s potential return date, but Manchester United have not confirmed that he will be ready to play by then.

His absence presents another challenge for Carrick, who has already used five different left-backs in 10 matches this season.

Meanwhile, Rashford is struggling with a persistent hip problem that has prevented him from travelling with the squad for the Como match.

The forward featured as a substitute against Leeds United at the weekend but continues to experience discomfort in the affected area.

Carrick confirmed that the club is working to help Rashford overcome the problem, although no specific return date has been established.

“Marcus is still feeling a hip issue we’re trying to overcome,” the United manager said.

Rashford’s absence is another setback for United, particularly as Carrick looks to find solutions to the team’s recent struggles.

The manager must now prepare for the Como encounter without several key players while hoping that those remaining fit can deliver the performance needed to secure a positive result.

United’s injury problems extend beyond the three players, with Benjamin Sesko, Patrick Dorgu, Lisandro Martinez, Ayden Heaven, Manuel Ugarte and goalkeeper Tom Heaton also dealing with fitness issues or illness. Defender Leny Yoro is unavailable for the Como match through suspension.

There is, however, some encouraging news for Carrick, with Matthijs de Ligt returning to contention after approximately 11 months out of competitive action. His availability could provide valuable reinforcement as United cope with their defensive shortages
