Kenyan in Ireland Who Lost KSh 55 Million Pangani Property That Earned Him KSh 192,000 Monthly
Amos Wachira, a Kenyan businessman living in Ireland, lost his KSh 55 million rental property in Pangani, Nairobi, following a disputed ownership claim and demolition in 2021.
The property consisted of 28 rental units that generated at least KSh 192,000 in monthly rental income. The investment provided Wachira with a source of income before the demolition left him without the property.
The dispute over ownership preceded the demolition, which resulted in the loss of the valuable real estate investment. The incident affected Wachira’s property interests in Kenya despite his residence in Ireland.
Wachira is seeking compensation for the loss of his KSh 55 million property. His case has also raised questions about the protection of investments belonging to Kenyans living abroad.
The rental units had generated a regular monthly income of at least KSh 192,000, making the property an important investment for the businessman. Losing the building meant losing an asset valued at KSh 55 million and the rental income associated with its 28 units.
As he pursues compensation, Wachira continues to question the protection available to diaspora investors who own property in Kenya. His case centres on the disputed ownership claim, the 2021 demolition and the financial loss resulting from the destruction of his Pangani property.
