Asiedu Nketiah Appeals to NDC Members Over Replacement of Late Ahafo Ano South-West DCE
The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has urged party members in the Ahafo Ano South-West District to maintain unity and avoid disagreements over the appointment of a successor to the late District Chief Executive (DCE), Abubakar Sedik.
Addressing mourners at Sedik’s final funeral rites in Mankranso, the district capital, Nketiah cautioned party members against engaging in internal disputes over who should occupy the vacant position.
He stressed that such disagreements could weaken party cohesion and divert attention from efforts to sustain the late DCE’s legacy.
Sedik died on September 20, 2026, following a brief illness.
Nketiah assured party supporters that the national and regional leadership would consult President John Dramani Mahama to facilitate a smooth transition and ensure that a suitable replacement was identified without unnecessary delays.
He explained that the leadership intended to engage relevant stakeholders and present recommendations to the President to enable the appointment process to proceed promptly.
The NDC chairman also underscored the importance of protecting development projects initiated during Sedik’s tenure, noting that a timely transition would help prevent disruptions to ongoing initiatives in the district.
The funeral ceremony attracted several dignitaries, including traditional authorities, senior politicians, technocrats and business executives, who gathered to pay their final respects to the deceased.
Party leaders described Sedik as a unifying figure and a committed public servant whose contribution to the district had earned him recognition among colleagues and residents.
Nketiah further appealed to serving DCEs in the region to support Sedik’s bereaved family, particularly his children, as they cope with the loss of their father.
Meanwhile, the Ahafo Ano South-West Constituency Chairman of the NDC, Chairman Koo Broni, in collaboration with cooperative miners, has established a fund to support the late DCE’s children.
The initiative was announced by Nketiah during the party’s tribute at the funeral grounds, with an initial contribution of GH¢1.5 million provided to the fund.
