Interior Minister Confirms Arrest of Obuasi SHS Headmaster

The headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School (SHTS), Zakaria Abdulai, has been arrested in connection with allegations of sexual misconduct, Interior Minister Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka has confirmed.

The minister disclosed the development when he appeared before Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee on Tuesday, October 20, 2026.

He explained that the investigation had been moved from the regional level to Police Headquarters for further inquiries.

According to Mr Muntaka, the case came to his attention on September 7, following a report received by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID).

He subsequently requested that the investigation be escalated to the national level to ensure further examination of the allegations.

“We’ve been able to get one of the ladies, maybe I shouldn’t be putting so much information out. About semen, we are getting DNA… So, what is happening is that this gentleman has been arrested, He’s going through the due process,” the Minister said.

The minister indicated that investigators were pursuing potential forensic evidence, including DNA analysis, as part of efforts to establish the facts surrounding the case.

He noted, however, that the collection of DNA samples would require a court order to ensure compliance with the law.

Mr Muntaka confirmed that the headmaster had been taken into custody and was undergoing the necessary legal procedures as investigations continued.

He emphasised that Abdulai remained presumed innocent under the law until proven guilty.

The minister added that the headmaster would have the opportunity to respond to the allegations as the investigation progressed.
