Concern for Barcelona as midfielder taken off injured against PSG
According to a report by Barca Universal on Tuesday October 20, 2026, Barcelona have been dealt a fresh injury concern after midfielder Dani Olmo was forced off during the first half of their UEFA Champions League clash against Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday night.
The 28-year-old started the encounter at the Parc des Princes ahead of fellow Spanish midfielder FermÃn López, making his 100th appearance for the Catalan club.
However, Olmo’s landmark outing was cut short in the 27th minute after he suffered an injury following a collision with PSG midfielder Vitinha.
The Barcelona medical staff examined the midfielder before deciding that he could not continue, with FermÃn introduced as his replacement.
The exact nature and severity of Olmo’s injury remain unclear, although the problem appeared to be muscular. Barcelona will now be hoping that the issue is not serious as they await further information about his condition.
The timing of the setback is particularly concerning for head coach Hansi Flick, with Barcelona scheduled to face arch-rivals Real Madrid in El Clasico on Sunday.
The Catalans are already dealing with fitness concerns involving several players. Eric GarcÃa and Jules Koundé were reportedly injured the previous weekend, while Rodri was not fully fit and was left on the bench against PSG.
Losing Olmo for an extended period would be another setback for Flick, given the midfielder’s creativity and ability to contribute in attacking areas.
However, it remains too early to determine whether the Spanish international will be available for Sunday’s meeting with Real Madrid.
Barcelona will be hoping that subsequent medical examinations provide positive news and that Olmo can return to action as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, PSG also suffered an injury concern during the encounter, as forward Ousmane Dembélé was forced off early with a suspected hamstring problem.
Both clubs will now be waiting for further updates on their respective players as they assess the impact of the injuries.
