Heartbreak as Final-Year Student Shot Dead in Hostel Room by Ex-husband

The quiet halls of Midlands State University in Gweru, Zimbabwe, are still wrapped in deep sorrow following the tragic death of a final-year student.

Lesedi Nkomo, a 25-year-old Psychology student, was shot and killed inside her room at Senga Boarding House by her former husband, Godknows Muleya. The 30-year-old security company director had visited her room, where an argument broke out before he pulled the trigger, leaving fellow students terrified and locked inside the room.

Muleya fled the scene in a silver-grey Toyota Wish, sparking a tense manhunt. Just two days later, police traced him to a guest lodge in Chiredzi, where he was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Classmates who attended Nkomo’s burial at Luveve Cemetery in Bulawayo remembered her as warm and approachable. “We have lost a bright soul who always had a smile for everyone,” a grieving classmate said.

The couple leaves behind an eight-month-old son, who is now under the care of his paternal grandmother as both families try to come to terms with the unimaginable double tragedy.
