PSG Beat Barcelona 4-2 in Champions League Thriller

According to a report by BBC Sport on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, Paris Saint-Germain claimed a convincing 4-2 win over Barcelona in their UEFA Champions League clash, capitalising on key defensive lapses to secure an important victory at the Parc des Princes.

Désiré Doué, Lucas Hernández, Vitinha and Fabián Ruiz scored for the French champions, while Barcelona fought back through Xavi Espart and Lamine Yamal. Despite showing attacking promise, the visitors were unable to prevent PSG from taking control during the decisive stages of the match.

Barcelona made a positive start and threatened the PSG goal on several occasions. Pau CubarsĂ forced Matvey Safonov into an early save following a corner, while Pedri also attempted to create problems for the home side. Yamal struggled to find the target with an effort from outside the penalty area, while PSG responded when Khvicha Kvaratskhelia struck the post with an early attempt.

The hosts eventually broke the deadlock in the 38th minute. Joao Neves directed a header into Doué’s path, allowing the forward to finish from close range and give PSG a 1-0 lead. Barcelona goalkeeper Joan García had already made several important interventions to keep his team in the contest.

Barcelona also suffered an injury setback before the break when Dani Olmo was forced off in the 27th minute, prompting a change to Hansi Flick’s plans.

The visitors returned for the second half determined to recover, and their efforts paid off in the 55th minute. FermĂn LĂłpez delivered a well-timed pass to Xavi Espart inside the penalty area, and the young defender calmly finished into the bottom corner to restore parity.

However, PSG continued to pose a threat in attack and regained the lead in the 72nd minute. Hernández rose above the Barcelona defence to meet a corner from Doué, directing a powerful header beyond García to make it 2-1.

Barcelona responded once again through Yamal in the 79th minute. The young winger drove into the penalty area with confidence before producing a precise finish into the right corner, bringing the score to 2-2 and giving the visitors renewed hope.

Their celebrations were short-lived, however, as PSG struck again just two minutes later. Vitinha found space outside the penalty area and unleashed a powerful shot that beat García, restoring the hosts’ advantage at 3-2.

PSG then put the result beyond doubt in the 87th minute. Achraf Hakimi supplied the decisive pass for Fabián Ruiz, who finished into an unguarded net to extend the lead to 4-2.

Barcelona attempted to reduce the deficit during stoppage time, but PSG remained organised defensively and saw out the remainder of the match to secure all three points.

The victory underlined PSG’s attacking strength and ability to punish opponents when opportunities arise. For Barcelona, the defeat will be disappointing after twice drawing level, with defensive shortcomings ultimately proving costly against the reigning European champions.
