Tinubu: He’s The Only President Who campaigned for and paid for his campaign to be President- Baba-Ahmed

According to a report by Daily Post on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, says Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) National Chairman Hakeem Baba-Ahmed accused President Bola Tinubu of relying on his personal fortune to win the 2023 presidential election.

Baba-Ahmed claimed Tinubu funded his campaign himself and received no financial support from Nigerians.

He made the remarks during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, where he also criticised Tinubu, alleging that the president did not understand Nigeria’s challenges before taking office.

The PRP chairman said Tinubu should have taken time to understand how Nigeria reached its current condition and the deeper problems holding back its development.

Baba-Ahmed conceded that Tinubu may not have had enough time to study the country before taking office on May 29, 2023. Still, he argued that the president should have shown a stronger grasp of Nigeria’s challenges and their causes.

“He should have understood how the country got to this point. I can appreciate that he was sworn in on May 29 and had little time to assess the situation,” he said.

The PRP leader also claimed that Tinubu financed his election campaign largely with his own money, rather than relying on significant donations from Nigerians or wealthy backers.

He said, “He single-handedly bought his way into power. He could quite possibly be the only president who campaigned for and paid for his campaign to become president.

Perhaps that was why he said, “Emi Lokan.” Tinubu is the only president who wasn’t given billions because he already had his own wealth.

Baba-Ahmed made the remarks as part of a wider critique of the Tinubu administration, which he accused of failing to tackle the country’s challenges adequately after more than three years in office.

He also raised questions about how Tinubu became president, particularly claims that he relied on his personal fortune during the 2023 election campaign.
