They Celebrated Spain’s World Cup-Winning Goal Together. Now Torres and Yamal Face Off

Ferran Torres and Lamine Yamal, who celebrated Spain’s World Cup triumph as teammates in July, will meet as opponents when Paris Saint-Germain host Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday, October 20. Torres joined PSG from Barcelona in August, setting up a reunion with his former club and teammates.

Spain defeated Argentina 1–0 in the 2026 World Cup final after Torres scored in the 106th minute. FIFA’s official match report said the winner followed a Pedro Porro cross and a header from Nico Williams that fell to Torres, who finished first time.

Yamal was part of Spain’s title-winning side, and the final victory gave the country its second men’s World Cup crown. The goal became the decisive moment of a tense final against the defending champions from Argentina.

Torres’ move to PSG marked the end of four and a half seasons at Barcelona. In its announcement on August 15, Barcelona said the forward had made 207 appearances for the club, scoring 65 goals and providing seven assists during his spell there.

The club confirmed an agreement for his transfer to Paris Saint-Germain and thanked him for his contribution. Torres is now on the opposing side, while Yamal remains in Barcelona’s first-team squad, according to the clubs’ published team information.

Barcelona’s official schedule lists the sides meeting at Parc des Princes on Tuesday, October 20, with kick-off scheduled for 10 p.m. East Africa time. The match turns a recent national-team connection into a direct club contest in Europe.

Before Torres left, he and Yamal had shared the Barcelona dressing room and played alongside each other for Spain. Both now arrive in the fixture with the same World Cup title on their records but representing different clubs.

The headline’s suggestion of rivalry refers to the competitive setting; available reports do not indicate a personal dispute between the players.
