Sundowns Reportedly Secure World Cup Star in Mind-Blowing Free Transfer

Mamelodi Sundowns are reportedly interested in securing the services of Ecuadorian midfielder Mendez, with a potential move in January raising questions about how he would fit into the squad.

The reported transfer could provide Sundowns with additional depth in midfield as the club continues to strengthen its team ahead of its 2027 ambitions. Mendez’s international experience and defensive abilities could make him a valuable option for the South African champions.

However, he would need to prove his quality and consistency to earn regular playing time at Chloorkop, where competition for places remains strong.

His defensive strengths could also give coach Miguel Cardoso more options when selecting his midfield combinations. In challenging matches, his presence could help the team maintain a better balance between defence and attack while improving its ability to control games.

Despite the growing transfer speculation, Sundowns supporters will have to wait for an official announcement before treating the reported deal as confirmed.

If the move goes through, Mendez could become an important addition to the squad, bringing international experience, defensive stability and greater depth as Sundowns pursue domestic and continental honours in 2027.
