Bayern Munich confirm who will take charge vs Arsenal amid Kompany absence

According to a report by Evening Standard on Tuesday October 20, 2026, Bayern Munich assistant coach Aaron Danks has stepped in for Vincent Kompany ahead of the club’s Champions League clash against Arsenal after the manager was forced to miss training and his pre-match press conference due to a viral infection.

Bayern confirmed that Kompany was resting at home on Tuesday as he recovered from the illness, leaving uncertainty over whether he would be present in the dugout for Wednesday’s encounter at the Allianz Arena.

Danks took charge of the team’s training preparations and addressed the media, explaining that he remained in constant communication with Kompany about the sessions, meetings and tactical plans for the match.

The assistant coach also made it clear that Kompany would continue to play a role in preparations, although the club had yet to determine whether he would be at the stadium on matchday.

Meanwhile, Bayern have received a boost with captain Manuel Neuer expected to return after missing the 6-1 victory over RB Leipzig because of a foot problem. Joshua Kimmich is also expected to be available despite missing training for private reasons.

However, Jamal Musiala is set to miss the Arsenal clash after suffering a thigh injury, leaving Bayern without one of their important creative options.

Arsenal will be hoping to take advantage of any disruption to Bayern’s preparations as they look to secure another positive result in Europe. Nevertheless, the German champions remain a formidable opponent, particularly on home soil.
