Relebohile Mofokeng Tipped For €25 Million Move As European Interest Grows

South African football prospect Relebohile Mofokeng has been tipped to command a transfer fee of between €20 million and €25 million if he maintains his impressive start at Belgian club Royale Union Saint-Gilloise.

The projection, which translates to approximately R369 million at the upper end, was shared by Grant Veitch, Roc Nation’s Director of Africa Recruitment, during a round-table discussion in Cape Town on Tuesday. Veitch said colleagues in Belgium had been impressed by the 21-year-old’s performances and believed his value could rise significantly if he continues on the same trajectory.

“Rele has started exceptionally well, and our Belgian consultants are telling us that if he continues this way, he will move for 20 to 25 million euros,” Veitch said.

Mofokeng moved to Union Saint-Gilloise from Orlando Pirates and has reportedly made an encouraging start to his European career. He has already collected silverware and scored three goals, including one against FC Viktoria Plzen in the UEFA Europa League.

His performances have also been linked to reported interest from prominent European clubs, including Atletico Madrid, Chelsea and Napoli. However, the projected fee remains an assessment of his potential market value rather than confirmation of an offer or an agreement with any of those clubs.

Veitch’s comments came during a broader discussion about developing South African talent and creating pathways for players to compete in international leagues. He pointed to the growing number of young South Africans making an impression abroad, arguing that their performances could help others follow similar routes.

“If you look at Mofokeng then maybe the move is going to Europe, and if you look at the exciting thing about South African football now, there’s a lot of young players that are doing exceptionally well in Europe and other markets,” he said.

The recruitment executive also mentioned Olwethu Makhanya and Mbekezeli Mbokazi, who plays for Chicago Fire, as examples of South African players contributing to the country’s growing presence in overseas football.

According to Veitch, those performances are helping international clubs build confidence in South African talent. He believes that growing trust could make it easier for younger players to secure opportunities abroad as teams become more familiar with what South African footballers can offer.

For Mofokeng, maintaining his current form will be crucial if the projected valuation is to become a realistic transfer prospect. His progress in Belgium will remain under close attention as he continues to build his reputation in European football.
