AMPF–MiM 2026: Gold processing plants could raise recovery rates to 90% – Oheneba Nana Kwaku Duah

Speaking at the African Minerals Policy Centre’s 2026 Mining in Motion Forum (AMPF-MiM 2026), he said the plants were being developed through a consortium of partners to provide artisanal and small-scale miners with access to modern gold processing equipment.

According to him, the initiative is expected to enable miners to recover more gold from the same quantity of ore, improving their earnings while increasing government revenue and the supply of gold to the Ghanaian gold market.

“A gold processing plant initiative with a consortium of partners is being developed across the country to support artisanal and small scale miners,” he said.

Mr Duah explained that the facilities would also reduce the need for miners to wash their ore in rivers, potentially helping to address the environmental challenges associated with small-scale mining.

He said the expected improvement in recovery rates would mean more gold recovered from existing mining operations, better incomes for miners and increased revenue for the state.

“These are just a few examples that have emerged from the relationships and conversations that we helped bring together,” he added.

The initiative forms part of efforts to support a more responsible, sustainable and competitive gold mining sector in Ghana.
