The Lagos State Government has given telecommunications and fibre-optic service providers 48 hours to fix sagging cables observed along parts of Ikeja Government Reserved Area (GRA), warning that failure to comply could attract regulatory penalties.

The Lagos State Infrastructure Maintenance and Regulatory Agency (LASIMRA) issued the directive to ipNX, FibreOne, 21st Century, Airtel and MTN following a routine monitoring and enforcement patrol conducted in the area on October 13, 2026.

In an official notice dated October 19, by the LASIMRA General Manager, Prince Oyekanmi Elegushi, the agency identified Oduduwa Crescent and Ladipo Bateye Street among the locations where several sagging fibre-optic cables were observed.

LASIMRA said the situation raised concerns about public safety, infrastructure maintenance and compliance with regulatory requirements.

The notice reads in part: “Consequently, ipNX, FibreOne, 21st Century, Airtel and MTN are hereby directed to take immediate corrective action by inspecting, securing and rectifying all identified sagging fibre-optic cables within 48 hours of receipt of this notice, subject to any applicable regulatory requirements.”

The agency warned that providers that failed to meet the deadline would face sanctions and further enforcement measures in line with relevant laws and its regulations.

“Please be advised that failure by any of the named providers to comply with this directive within the stipulated timeframe will attract appropriate regulatory penalties and further enforcement action in accordance with applicable laws and LASIMRA regulations.,” the notice stated.

The affected companies were also directed to submit confirmation of the corrective measures taken to the agency.
