Princess Lilibet, 5, to mark major British childhood milestone for first time
LEAVE A COMMENT The Duke and Duchess of Sussex's daughter, Princess Lilibet, is set to celebrate a special first in the UK in two weeks' time. The five-year-old will get to experience her very first Bonfire Night now that she is living in the UK with her family. Lilibet's older brother, Prince Archie, has technically already experienced his first Bonfire Night, as he was living in the UK in 2019.
The Sussex family lived stateside for six years prior to their shock move back to England and as "firework night" or "Guy Fawkes Night" as it is sometimes known, is specific to the UK, it would not have been marked in the US.
The annual event, held on 5 November, historically symbolises the survival of the British monarchy and parliament following the failure of Guy Fawkes' Gunpowder Plot of 1605. People would burn a stuffed effigy to represent Guy and let off fireworks to mirror the gunpowder.
The date has long evolved into a beloved autumn fixture defined by village bonfires, sparklers and firework displays.
It is unknown how the Sussexes will celebrate this seasonal date, but we've seen them embarking on wholesome countryside pastimes since they've been back in England. There could well be a firework display near their home, which is believed to be somewhere in the countryside.
This night will come days after the Sussex children will mark Halloween in the UK. Last year, the family visited a pumpkin patch in America to get in the spirit of the season. Meghan took to Instagram to share a cute video of the wholesome family outing. The clip opened with sweeping shots of the pumpkin field, and it also showed Lilibet dressed in a cosy matching set. In another cute moment, she could be seen playing with a tyre filled with mini pumpkins.
We know that the children have been enrolled in a UK school, and during a walkabout in Nottingham, Harry revealed his son's special request when it came to school. "My son turned around to me and said, 'Can I go to a school that doesn't do math," laughed Harry.
The pair commenced their first year at a British school in September following their family's move to the UK, entering Year 3 and Year 1, respectively.
