Nigerian Man Accused in Tsontso Smartwatch Case Breaks Down in Court Over Child in His Care

The ongoing bail proceedings in a case involving the alleged theft and resale of runner Elizabeth “Tsontso” Moselakgomo’s smartwatch reportedly caused Nigerian national Kenneth Chibuzor to break down in tears in court as details about a young child under his care emerged.

Hearing about the child’s upbringing and current living arrangements after Chibuzor’s arrest was an emotional moment for the court. The child’s mother allegedly left when he was three years old, as stated in court documents. One of Chibuzor’s friends has allegedly taken in the child since he was arrested.

The young child, whose care has been temporarily transferred while the legal processes are underway, and the accused’s personal circumstances have once again come to light as a result of this revelation.

It is alleged that Chibuzor stole Moselakgomo’s wristwatch and then resold it. But the legal system is still working on the accusations, and the case is not over yet.As the court heard his bail application, his emotional reaction surfaced as his personal circumstances were brought to light.

The court is still considering the case, so Chibuzor is still in custody despite the developments. His release on bond is still pending.

The expected confirmation of his immigration status is not expected until 27 October 2026, thus the case has been delayed until then. At this stage in the court’s decision-making process, the confirmation is likely to be incorporated into the continuing legal proceedings.

According to the evidence given in court, Chibuzor’s friend is currently caring for the child. When the accused shows up for court on the appointed date, more information about the case is likely to be revealed.
