Estevão Receives Blunt Chelsea Transfer Advice Despite Xabi Alonso’s Promise

According to a report by football.london on Tuesday October 20, 2026, Former Chelsea forward Scott Sinclair believes Estevao Willian may need a loan spell to secure the regular playing time that can help him develop.

The 19-year-old has made seven appearances for Chelsea this season, but has started only twice, both in the Carabao Cup.

His latest start, against Leeds United, ended at half-time after a difficult first period. Chelsea later came from behind to win 6–3.

Since then, Estevao has had limited opportunities. He was an unused substitute in Saturday’s 2–0 victory over Everton and has played just 154 minutes in total this season.

With Cole Palmer, Morgan Rogers and Joao Pedro ahead of him in the attacking pecking order, Sinclair says regular football could be important for the young Brazilian.

Speaking to Andy’s Bet Club, he drew on his own experience of six loan spells during his time at Chelsea.

“Young players want to play football,” Sinclair said. “If you’re not getting opportunities at your parent club, a loan can give you experience and match time. The longer you go without playing, the harder it can be to regain match fitness and confidence.”

Sinclair added that the decision should ultimately be Estevao’s, but said he would encourage the winger to seek consistent minutes.

Estevao, meanwhile, remains focused on earning his place at Chelsea. Speaking to ESPN during the international break, he said he was concentrating on training and making the most of every opportunity.

Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso has also expressed his confidence in the youngster. In September, he said he was relying on Estevao and praised his attitude, potential and willingness to adapt.

“The season is going to be long,” Alonso said. “Este is part of it. He has a very good attitude and mentality, and he prepares for every game ready to help the team.”
