Over 500 hypertension, 400 impacted earwax cases recorded during Sekyere Community Bank health screening
More than 500 cases of hypertension and over 400 cases of impacted earwax have been recorded during a free health screening exercise organized by Sekyere Community Bank PLC in the Ashanti Region.
The week-long outreach, organized in partnership with Peace Specialty Hospital, Mamponteng, was held across five branches of the bank, including Mamponteng, Kenyasi, Kronom, and Jamasi, as part of activities marking International Customer Service Week.
A total of 875 customers, staff and community members from the Kwabre East Municipality, Suame Municipality and Sekyere South District benefited from the exercise.
Beneficiaries were offered blood sugar testing, ear, nose and throat (ENT) examinations, general health assessments, free medical consultations and health education. Free medications were also distributed to those who needed treatment.
Speaking on the outcome of the exercise, the Records Officer of Peace Specialty Hospital, Abraham Adu Sarfo, commended staff and customers of the bank for the impressive turnout.
According to him, hypertension emerged as the most prevalent condition detected during the screening.
“Over 500 affected individuals were offered professional medical counselling, while others were referred to the hospital for further evaluation and treatment,” he said.
Mr. Sarfo further disclosed that the ENT unit identified over 400 cases of impacted earwax, a condition where earwax builds up and blocks the ear canal.
He explained that the condition had contributed to varying degrees of hearing loss among some participants, prompting referrals for ear washing procedures and subsequent review appointments.
The Chief Executive Officer of Sekyere Community Bank PLC, Michael Aidoo, said the initiative forms part of the bank’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) aimed at enhancing the well-being of its customers.
According to him, the bank recognizes that healthy customers are more productive and better positioned to contribute meaningfully to their families, businesses and communities.
Mr. Aidoo emphasized that the bank has consistently demonstrated its commitment to community development and national progress through various impactful social interventions over the years.
Beneficiaries expressed profound appreciation to the bank for the timely intervention, which enabled them to know their health status, and urged the management to make the exercise a regular feature.
