Today’s Headlines:ADC, Atiku not clear on what to offer Nigerians — Kwankwasiyya spokesperson, ‘Close up your borders’ – Trump blames French unrest on immigration
The Kwankwasiyya movement has accused the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar of being unclear about what they would offer Nigerians, saying the party was relying on the presidential flagbearers of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, to advance Atiku’s 2027 presidential ambition.
The movement’s spokesperson, Dr Habibu Sale Mohammed, made the allegation on Daily Trust TV’s Day Break on Monday, while responding to the NDC vice-presidential candidate’s statement over the weekend, where he ruled out an alliance with the ADC.
Mohammed said parties should present their ideas and capabilities to voters rather than blame their prospects on politicians who decline to join them.
“The politics should be played, often presenting yourself, your ideas, your capacities and capabilities for Nigerians to make the right choice. It is not about causing Nigerians to one angle,” he said.
US President Donald Trump on Monday again blamed immigration for protests and violence that have rocked France in recent days, urging Europe and French President Emmanuel Macron to tighten borders.
“What’s happening in France has to do with immigration, not schools, not anything,” Trump told reporters in Washington, echoing his comments from the day before. “It’s immigration, and I told President Emmanuel Macron, close up your borders.”
Weekend demonstrations over soaring prices were held in Paris and other cities, degenerating into some of the worst street violence France has seen in recent years.
Trump recounted a conversation with Macron, telling him “a long time ago, you’re making a big mistake in France. You’re letting everybody from the world come in. The whole world was coming in.
Vice-President Kashim Shettima has defended President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms, saying the country would have faced a more severe crisis if successive administrations had continued to delay critical decisions.
Shettima made the assertion on Monday while addressing leaders and members of the City Boy Movement at the State House Conference Hall in Abuja.
He said the Tinubu administration had chosen to confront Nigeria’s structural economic problems rather than defer difficult decisions, adding that the government recognised the hardships Nigerians had experienced in the process.
