Former Kaizer Chiefs Stars Proving Age Is Just A Number

Knowledge Musona and Khama Billiat are proving that class is permanent, with the experienced Zimbabwean duo continuing to make a significant impact for Scottland FC despite advancing in age.

The former Kaizer Chiefs stars were instrumental in Scottland’s 2-0 victory over Angolan giants Petro de Luanda in the first leg of their CAF Champions League second preliminary-round tie on Sunday, October 18.

Billiat opened the scoring in the 67th minute before Musona added the second goal in the 80th minute, giving the Zimbabwean champions a valuable advantage ahead of the return fixture in Angola.

Their performances earned praise from head coach Norman Mapeza, who believes the experience they bring to his squad is priceless.

The 36-year-old Musona and 36-year-old Billiat have enjoyed distinguished careers, including successful spells in South African football. Both became familiar faces at Kaizer Chiefs, where they showcased their attacking quality and established themselves as influential players.

Musona, who captained Amakhosi during his time at the club, built a reputation as a dangerous goalscorer. Billiat, meanwhile, brought creativity, dribbling ability and an eye for goal, having previously enjoyed considerable success with Mamelodi Sundowns before moving to Naturena.

Now at Scottland, the pair are demonstrating that experience remains a valuable asset in modern football. Their understanding of the game, composure in decisive moments and ability to deliver under pressure have made them important figures in the club’s ambitions.

Speaking after the victory over Petro de Luanda, Mapeza emphasised the importance of their contribution, explaining that the experience they provide cannot be measured in monetary terms.

Their influence extends beyond scoring goals, with their professionalism and knowledge helping guide teammates through the demands of domestic and continental competition.

Scottland are chasing a historic place in the CAF Champions League group stages, and the former Chiefs duo could prove decisive in that pursuit.

Although age inevitably brings different physical demands, Musona and Billiat are showing that intelligence, experience and quality can keep players competitive.

For South African supporters, their continued success is another reminder that these former Amakhosi favourites still have plenty to offer.
