Wicknell Chivayo’s Lavish Car Giveaways Under Scrutiny as Harare Dealerships Claim US$5.1 Million

An investigation by ZimLive has reportedly revealed that the late Zimbabwean businessman Wicknell Chivayo owed three major car dealerships in Harare a combined US$5.1 million, raising questions about the credit arrangements behind his high-profile vehicle giveaways.

According to sources familiar with the transactions, Exquisite Cars, Enterprise Car Sales and Faramatsi Motors are among the dealerships allegedly owed millions of dollars by Chivayo.

Faramatsi Motors reportedly accounts for the largest portion of the outstanding debt, with an estimated US$2.4 million still owed. The reported figures offer a glimpse into the financial arrangements that may have supported Chivayo’s widely publicised distribution of luxury vehicles to politicians, public figures, musicians and other prominent individuals.

Chivayo attracted considerable public attention through his extravagant gifts, which frequently featured expensive vehicles presented to beneficiaries in highly publicised announcements and social media posts.

While the giveaways earned him publicity and admiration from some supporters, they also generated questions about the sources of his wealth and the financial structures used to acquire the vehicles.

The latest findings, if confirmed, could provide further insight into the business dealings behind the lavish displays of generosity.
