Ambulance Involved In Accident After Brake Failure At Afosu

Four people have survived a road accident involving a National Ambulance Service vehicle at Afosu in the Birim North Municipality of the Eastern Region.

The incident occurred on Saturday, October 11, 2025, after the ambulance, which was travelling from Nkawkaw, reportedly developed a brake failure while on the road.

The Eastern Regional Public Relations Office of the Ghana National Fire Service reported on Sunday, October 12, that the New Abirem Municipal Fire Station was alerted to the accident at approximately 2:30 p.m.

Firefighters responded immediately, with seven personnel led by Leading Fireman Tenkorang Ofori Prince reaching the scene after being dispatched about two minutes after the emergency call.

People who witnessed the accident said the ambulance overturned several times before landing on its side. Despite the severity of the crash, all four individuals travelling in the vehicle were found alive.

Emergency responders rescued the victims and took them to the New Abirem Government Hospital, where they received medical attention.

Following the rescue, the fire team carried out additional work to secure the accident area. They cleaned the blood that had spilled onto the road and retrieved medical equipment and other important items from the wrecked ambulance.

Among the items recovered were a ventilator, cardiac monitor, fire extinguisher, chest compression device, stethoscope and telephone.

Police officers were also deployed to the location to regulate traffic and reduce the risk of another accident as investigations into the incident proceeded.

The rapid response from the fire service played an important role in ensuring the four victims were rescued safely. The coordinated efforts of the Fire Service and Police also helped protect other motorists and road users at the scene.
