Mohan Bhagwat Urges Protesters, Leaders to Avoid Politicisation and Focus on Solutions
Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat on Tuesday urged protesters, political leaders and government authorities to keep public agitations focused on resolving societal problems rather than using them for political gains, warning that divisive campaigns could deepen social fragmentation.
Addressing the RSS’s Vijayadashami and Shastra Puja celebrations at Reshimbagh ground in Nagpur, Bhagwat said protests were a natural response to social problems and systemic shortcomings. However, he stressed that demonstrations must remain within the Constitution and the law, even when emotions run high.
He cautioned against using agitations to target individuals, communities or ideologies, or to secure electoral advantages and short-term popularity. Instead, he called for constructive dialogue, mutual respect and responsible conduct by protesters, political parties, government institutions and administrative authorities.
Bhagwat said internal divisions weakened society and argued that national unity was essential to protecting India’s sovereignty and future. He also advocated wider adoption of Swadeshi products and systems, while stressing the importance of preserving the country’s shared civilisational identity amid its diversity of religions, languages, regions and cultural traditions.
Reflecting on historical and spiritual figures, the RSS chief recalled the contribution of Bengal’s Rajnarain Bose, whose 200th birth anniversary is being observed, in promoting cultural awareness through traditional Hindu Melas. He also paid tribute to Sant Ravidas, highlighting his message of devotion, faith and social harmony during periods of upheaval.
Bhagwat expressed concern over increasing drug and substance abuse among young people and appealed to parents and educators to guide and protect them against addiction.
The event was attended by former Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, state Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule and several other political and RSS functionaries. Veteran journalist Sanjay Gupta was the chief guest, while Yaniv Revach, Israel’s Consul General to Midwest India, was also present.
