A dystopian video has emerged showing goons attacking K-9 dogs on the Chicago subway’s notorious Red Line.

Footage showed a group of men kicking one of the dogs deployed to the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) on the Red Line, a train line connecting the Northside and the Southside of the city.

The incident was posted to social media on October 17. It occurred at the city’s 69th station, located within the Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood.

A man wearing a ski mask threw punches at the CTA officer while the other attacker kicked the dog the officer was holding on a leash.

The altercation continued as the men yelled at the officers and the officers attempted to restrain them and hold the dogs back.

The officer holding the canine on the leash told the attacker he is standing too close to him several times after the dog was kicked, the video showed.

The K-9 Unit was introduced to Chicago’s Red Line in 2022, in a deal with Action K-9, a private contractor.

The initiative was meant to address post-pandemic safety concerns, the CTA shared in a news release.

Each K-9 team consists of two unarmed guards and one dog.

‘The addition of the K-9 units is just one way we’re following through on our commitment to security for our customers, as well as our frontline employees who play a vital role in keeping our system moving every day,’ said CTA President Dorval R Carter Jr when the contract was first announced.

The dogs are trained and provided by Action K-9 Security.

CTA gave Action K-9 $30.9million, paid for by funds from the annual operating budget, CTA said at the time.

A more recent two-year contract with the city which took effect last year cost $89.6 million, according to ABC 7 Chicago.

Last month, an investigation conducted by ABC 7 Chicago’s I-Team uncovered hundreds of complaints regarding the mistreatment of the dogs trained by Action K-9.

The investigation was launched after attorney Conley Wouters requested the government records pertaining to the Action K-9 deal, and was unable to receive them until he turned to the Illinois Attorney General’s Public Access Counselor for assistance, ABC 7 reported.

The public expressed concern at the treatment of CTA canines after a video of a fight involving the K-9 unit and several passengers went viral in 2025.

‘In all, the CTA turned over 133 customer complaints involving Action K9 since 2022,’ ABC 7 wrote.

The Daily Mail has reached out to CTA and the Chicago Police Department for further comment.
