Chelsea Star Winger Told to Leave After Xabi Alonso Snub
According to a report by London Evening Standard on Monday October 19, 2026, Chelsea youngster Estevao Willian has been urged to consider leaving Stamford Bridge after struggling for regular playing time under manager Xabi Alonso this season.
Former Chelsea winger Scott Sinclair believes the Brazilian needs consistent minutes to continue developing, while club legend Pat Nevin has also suggested that a departure could be possible.
Estevao enjoyed an encouraging debut campaign at Chelsea, scoring eight goals in 36 appearances across all competitions. The Blues secured his signature from Palmeiras in 2025 in a deal reportedly worth more than £50 million.
The 19-year-old is regarded as one of football’s most promising young talents and has already earned 14 caps for Brazil, scoring six international goals. However, he is yet to start a Premier League match this season. He was also an unused substitute during Chelsea’s victory over Everton on Saturday.
Reports suggest the teenager is becoming frustrated with his limited opportunities and could consider pushing for a January transfer. Sinclair believes regular football would benefit the youngster at this stage of his career.
Speaking to Andy’s Bet Club, the former Chelsea winger explained that young players need consistent opportunities to develop. He revealed that he went on six loan spells during his time at Stamford Bridge because he needed more playing experience.
Sinclair warned that a lack of match action could affect Estevao’s fitness and confidence. He believes the Brazilian should consider moving elsewhere if regular opportunities remain unavailable.
Nevin also acknowledged the possibility of Estevao seeking an exit. Speaking to GOAL, the former Chelsea winger said he would not be surprised if the teenager explored other options.
However, Nevin recognised Chelsea’s need to retain talented players in case injuries affect key attackers. He stressed that a player with Estevao’s ability should not spend his career sitting on the bench.
Meanwhile, Alonso has attempted to ease concerns about the youngster’s future. The Chelsea manager insists Estevao will receive more playing time and opportunities to demonstrate his ability as the season progresses.
