I Have Received Several Calls From Football Stakeholders to Run for GFA Presidency — Andre Dede Ayew
Former Black Stars captain André Dede Ayew has revealed that he has received several calls from football stakeholders encouraging him to contest for the presidency of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), raising the possibility of his future involvement in the administration of Ghanaian football.
Ayew disclosed that individuals within the football community have contacted him about the prospect of leading the country’s football governing body, although his statement does not confirm whether he intends to enter the race.
“I have received several calls from football stakeholders to run for the GFA presidency,” Ayew said, revealing that the idea of him taking up a leadership position in football administration has been raised by people within the sport.
The former Black Stars captain is one of Ghana’s most recognisable football figures, having represented the national team for several years and served as captain during a significant period in its history.
His experience with the national team has given him insight into the challenges players face, including preparations for international competitions, the demands of professional football and the expectations placed on those representing the country.
The Ghana Football Association is responsible for overseeing football activities in the country, including the organisation of domestic competitions, the administration of national teams and the implementation of policies aimed at developing the sport.
The association’s president plays a central leadership role in guiding its operations, working with stakeholders and helping shape the direction of football development in Ghana.
Ayew’s revelation comes at a time when discussions about football leadership and the future development of the sport remain important to stakeholders, including players, coaches, administrators and supporters.
His potential interest in the GFA presidency would represent a possible transition from his long career as a professional footballer to a leadership role within the country’s football administration, although he has not confirmed a decision to contest the position.
Football stakeholders often look to former players for leadership because of their practical understanding of the game and the experiences they gain while competing at domestic and international levels.
However, leading a football association requires more than playing experience, as the role also involves administration, financial management, governance, stakeholder engagement and the development of football structures across the country.
Ayew’s statement confirms that he has received approaches from people within the football community regarding a possible presidential bid, but it does not establish that he has accepted their calls or formally declared his candidacy.
The former Black Stars captain’s next decision will determine whether the suggestion raised by these stakeholders develops into an actual bid for leadership of the Ghana Football Association.
