Sarkodie Insists He Would Repost Funny Video Involving Stonebwoy Despite Backlash
Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie has maintained that he had no intention of mocking dancehall musician Stonebwoy over his disability, insisting that he would still share the controversial funny video if given another opportunity.
In a statement addressing the controversy, Sarkodie stressed that he would never deliberately make fun of a person living with a disability, making it clear that his post was not intended to ridicule his fellow musician.
“I will in no way mock a disabled person and I had no intention of doing so towards Stonebwoy but I’d still post that funny video again,” he said.
His comments have brought renewed attention to the discussion surrounding the video and how humour involving public figures with disabilities can be interpreted by different audiences.
Stonebwoy, born Livingstone Etse Satekla, is one of Ghana’s leading dancehall artistes. He has lived with a physical disability following a childhood accident that affected his leg.
The musician has built a successful career in the Ghanaian music industry, earning recognition both locally and internationally.
Sarkodie, on the other hand, is widely regarded as one of Ghana’s most influential rappers, with a long-standing presence in the music industry.
Although Sarkodie has denied any intention to ridicule Stonebwoy, his insistence that he would repost the video has raised questions about the difference between sharing something for entertainment and content that others may consider offensive.
The situation also highlights the challenges celebrities face on social media, where jokes and humorous videos can generate different reactions depending on the context and the audience’s interpretation.
While Sarkodie maintains that his actions were not motivated by discrimination, the debate centres on whether the video could be perceived as insensitive regardless of his intentions.
