I Have Received Several Calls From Football Stakeholders To Run For The GFA Presidency By Dede Ayew

Former Black Stars captain André Dede Ayew has revealed that several football stakeholders have contacted him about the possibility of running for the presidency of the Ghana Football Association.GHOne TV graphic (19 October 2026); André Ayew’s interview on the Obi One Podcast, reported by GhanaWeb and Kickoff Ghana.

Speaking on the Obi One Podcast, Ayew confirmed that he has received phone calls since media speculation about his potential candidacy began.

“I have received several calls from football stakeholders to run for the GFA presidency,” he said.

However, the experienced forward stressed that his immediate focus is not on leadership contests but on the growth of Ghanaian football. He argued that improvement must start now with those currently in positions of authority rather than waiting for future elections.

“What’s important is what the people want, what the football people want. But that’s not what’s important today for me personally as Andre. You know, what I want is our football to grow. So who’s going to make it grow? It has to grow from those in power now. We have to start it now, not tomorrow,” Ayew explained.

The former Olympique de Marseille and Swansea City player pointed to his long journey through Ghanaian football, from Colts and Division One to the Under-20s and the senior national team. He currently serves as CEO of a club and said many former players share the desire to see positive change.

Ayew’s comments come amid ongoing concerns about the state of football administration in Ghana. Discussions about leadership and reform within the GFA continue to attract public interest, particularly as the national teams and domestic league face various challenges.

While he has not declared any intention to contest, the fact that stakeholders are reaching out to a respected figure like Ayew highlights the search for credible voices to help steer the game forward.

For now, Ayew insists the priority remains practical steps to improve Ghanaian football rather than speculation about future office holders.
