Makinde’s 2027 Ambition Faces Fresh Hurdle as South-East APM Chairmen Threaten Campaign Withdrawal

Makinde’s 2027 Ambition Faces Fresh Hurdle as South-East APM Chairmen Threaten Campaign Withdrawal

According to report by Vanguard on Monday, October 19, 2026, the five state chairmen of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) in the South-East have demanded the immediate dissolution of state coordinatorship structures established for the proposed Seyi Makinde/Daura Presidential Campaign Council, warning that they may reconsider their participation if their concerns are ignored.

The chairmen accused the arrangement of undermining recognised party leadership and creating parallel structures capable of generating internal conflicts, weakening unity and threatening the party’s electoral chances.

Their position was contained in a communique issued after a meeting in Abuja on Sunday.

The document was read at a press conference by Enugu State Chairman, Barr. Ken Ikeh, and signed by the chairmen of Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo states.

Although they reaffirmed their support for Makinde’s presidential ambition and the party’s RESET NIGERIA AGENDA, the leaders opposed appointments that could sideline elected state chairmen and existing party structures.

They maintained that establishing campaign positions without consulting relevant state leaders violated internal democracy, collective responsibility and the party’s established framework.

The chairmen therefore urged Makinde and the APM national leadership to review and dissolve coordinatorship arrangements that duplicate or displace the responsibilities of recognised state executives.

They also demanded control over campaign resources, including vehicles, branded equipment, publicity materials and other mobilisation items.

According to them, state chairmen are better positioned to distribute these resources transparently and in line with the political realities of their respective states.

The leaders appealed to Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, whom they described as the party’s national leader, and Makinde to intervene urgently to settle the disagreement.

They warned that failure to address their grievances could force them to withdraw from the current campaign arrangement and take other appropriate decisions in the political interests of their states and the South-East.

The communiqué also addressed plans for town hall meetings promoting the RESET NIGERIA AGENDA.

While supporting the initiative as a platform for public consultation and grassroots participation, the chairmen argued that the South-East’s sociopolitical characteristics made crowd-renting an unsuitable mobilisation strategy.

They further praised APM National Chairman, Dr Yusuf Maman Dantalle, for his leadership and efforts to attract influential political figures, particularly Mohammed and Makinde, into the party.

The chairmen expressed confidence that the governors’ involvement would expand the party’s national appeal and strengthen its political structures.

The communiqué was signed by Dcn. Victor Umunna of Abia, Uzochukwu Eminent of Anambra, Evang. Ohakam Kate of Ebonyi, Barr. Ken Ikeh of Enugu and Hon. Clinton Edoziem of Imo.
