NPA Refers Directors Of 30 Defunct Oil Firms To EOCO Over GH¢70m Debt
The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) has referred directors of 30 defunct oil marketing companies to the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) over an accumulated debt of GH¢70 million, TV3 Ghana has reported.
According to the report on Monday, October 19, 2026, the debt spans from 2018 to 2024 and covers unremitted levies and margins, including the Unified Petroleum Pricing Fund (UPPF) margins collected from consumers at the pumps.
The NPA, under CEO Godwin Edudzi Tameklo, says the referral is for further investigation and recovery action against the directors of the companies that are no longer operating.
The move comes amid heightened efforts by the Authority to enforce compliance and accountability in Ghana’s downstream petroleum sector. The NPA is responsible for regulating oil marketing companies and ensuring they remit statutory margins and levies collected on every litre of fuel sold.
Officials say the GH¢70 million represents funds that should have been paid to the regulator but were withheld by the firms before folding up.
EOCO is now expected to assess the referral and take steps to trace the directors and recover the funds.
Further details on the names of the 30 companies and their directors are yet to be made public.
