Jalen Hurts out for the season after tests find ‘multiple blood clots on his lungs’ and doctors begin ‘immediate treatment’ on terrifying diagnosis

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts is set to miss the remainder of the NFL season after multiple blood clots were discovered in his lungs.
Hurts was diagnosed with blood clots after taking a cleat to his calf against the Los Angeles Rams then played in London against the Jacksonville Jaguars the following week.
According to ESPN, Hurts played that game without any sleep after that was deemed a risk after being in hospital until 4am the night before the game. The Daily Mail has approached the Eagles and NFL for comment.
He went on to throw for 220 yards in a dramatic 19-17 loss but after flying back to the United States he was placed on injured reserve last week and missed this weekend’s loss to the Carolina Panthers.
And more details have now been revealed about his condition after a scary situation which will end his 2026 season, though he is expected to make a full recovery.
A statement from the Eagles and his agent, Nicole Lynn, read: ‘Over the last few days, Jalen Hurts has received comprehensive medical evaluations by physician experts. In the interest of transparency.

‘Jalen was initially diagnosed by specialists in London with a left calf superficial vein thrombosis. After further testing and monitoring, the current diagnosis is a deep vein thrombosis, as well as bilateral pulmonary emboli.
‘He is clinically stable and has no significant functional limitations. His treatment should only involve anticoagulation [i.e. ‘blood thinners]. During this time. He will not be allowed to participate in any contact activities. Including football.
‘Jalen’s prognosis is very good. And we expect a full recovery. We anticipate that he will have the opportunity to resume contact football activities when off the blood thinners.
‘In the meantime. He will remain active around the team and continue to condition. More importantly. We anticipate that he will have no long-term effects. We are thinking of Jalen and looking forward to a strong recovery.’
Hurts first appeared on the injury report on the Friday before the Jaguars game, being listed as a full participant with a calf injury.
He was never downgraded to questionable or doubtful and had no injury designation for the game but remained on the injury report as a full participant with a calf injury at the start of last week.
‘It was a very unique experience, to say the least,’ Hurts said. ‘I don’t want to get into the details of kind of leading up to the game and whatnot, but got nicked up in the Rams game.’
He was later placed on injured reserve before more details emerged and the shocking discovery of blood clots traveling to his lungs was made over the weekend.
His replacement, Tanner McKee, struggled to guide the offense to a more productive day, with the team putting up only 222 yards of offense in a 25-14 loss that leaves them 2-4 this season.
McKee finished 26 of 45 for 215 yards and a touchdown. Hurts attempted 40 passes only once this season and three times never got above 27 attempts.
‘It’s really hard to win in the NFL only putting up 14 points,’ McKee said, after he finished 26 of 45 for 215 passing yards and a touchdown.
‘I am so much better, and I’m looking forward to learning everything and becoming the player that I know I am, the player that I can prove that I am,’ he added.
With their season on the line, head coach Nick Sirianni said ‘everything’s on the table’ after signing Joe Milton from the Dallas Cowboys’ practice squad and having rookie Cole Payton also in the QB room.
‘You’ve got to score points, and we’re not doing that right now,’ Sirianni said.
