Mohsin Naqvi says ‘Makkah Defence Alliance’ is for peace, not war

Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has said Pakistan remains committed to peace and dialogue, stressing that the “Makkah Defence Alliance” is aimed at promoting regional peace, not waging war, 24NewsHD TV reported on Monday.

Addressing the Global Security Summit in Doha today, Naqvi said Qatar was playing an important role as a mediator in efforts to promote international peace.

He described the past few months as crucial for regional stability and said Pakistan had consistently advocated peaceful solutions to the US-Iran conflict.

The minister praised Field Marshal Asim Munir for his role in peace efforts, saying he had witnessed first-hand how challenging diplomatic negotiations could be during a visit to Iran alongside the military chief.

Naqvi said Field Marshal Munir had worked for up to 16 hours to advance negotiations and peace efforts.

He added that the process had faced difficult moments and rising tensions, but the efforts continued without giving up.

“We have never stopped the process of dialogue, and the doors to negotiations can never be closed,” the minister said, emphasising the need for continued engagement to resolve disputes.

He also stressed that terrorism was a common enemy of all countries and required collective efforts to defeat it.

Describing the Makkah Defence Agreement as an important milestone in Pakistan’s efforts to promote regional peace, Naqvi said the agreement should be viewed as a means of strengthening stability and cooperation rather than preparing for war.

He said sustained dialogue, mutual understanding and diplomatic engagement remained essential for lasting peace in the region.
