In January 2000, filmmaker Rakesh Roshan was shot and injured in an assassination attempt in the Santacruz area of Mumbai, just a week after the release of his blockbuster film Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai. Baba Ziauddin Siddique was shot on Saturday night near his car while he was leaving his son’s office. He died later in hospital. Baba Siddique and Salman Khan shared a deep, long-standing personal friendship that went far beyond politics and Bollywood.

The influential politician, who was part of the coalition governing Maharashtra state, was assassinated by the main shooter, who was identified as Shivkumar Gautam, alongside arrested associates Gurmail Singh and Dharmaraj Kashyap. Gautam was later apprehended in Uttar Pradesh while attempting to flee to Nepal. Mumbai police later linked the team to the Lawrence Bisnoi gang.
