Tema Is Back, Jobs Are Coming—Mahama Storms Afienya Factories And Cuts Sod For Big Industrial Park
President John Dramani Mahama on Thursday, October 15, 2026, inspected factories within the Afienya Industrial Enclave near Tema. The tour was to see how factories are working and to cut sod for a new big industrial park that government says will change the face of manufacturing in Ghana.
During the inspection, Mahama visited several factories and spoke with workers and investors. He praised one major investor, Mr Zheng, for employing over 10,000 people in the enclave, with more than 50 percent being women. He said he was happy to see young women, including single mothers and girls who just finished school, getting jobs to support their families and build their future.
The main highlight of the day was the sod-cutting for the 1,238-acre Afienya Industrial Park. Government says the park will host more than 120 enterprises. It will have everything factories need to start quickly, including electricity, water, road networks, and waste treatment facilities to make business easy.
Mahama said the new park has become necessary because the Tema Export Processing Zone is now full. Investors are looking for space and Afienya will provide it. The park is expected to boost manufacturing, attract foreign and local investment, and create thousands of jobs for Ghanaian youth who are looking for work.
The President said the project is part of his plan to make Tema regain its position as Ghana’s industrial city. He noted that industries in Tema are expanding because the investment climate is improving and confidence is returning.
Mahama said the Afienya Industrial Park will support his 24-hour economy policy, which aims to make Ghana a 24-hour productive and export-driven economy where factories work day and night.
According to officials, the park will be built with modern roads that connect factories to the Tema motorway, constant power supply to avoid shutdowns, clean water for production, and proper waste systems to protect the environment. This will make it easy for any business to start production within months, not years. Many young people in Afienya and Tema are already excited, hoping to get factory jobs closer to home without traveling far.
Workers at the enclave welcomed the President and expressed hope that the new park will bring more jobs and better conditions for their families.
President Mahama assured them that government will continue to support industrialization and create opportunities for all. He said Ghana must produce what it eats and export more, and Afienya is a big step to achieve that dream.
