RMK: If You Look At The NDC VP Candidate, You Will Know That The NDC Is Out For The Rescue-Ikoawaji
In a recent interview on Arise TV, on Thursday, October 15, 2026, Asukewe Ikoawaji, a chieftain of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), discussed the party’s efforts to unite opposition politicians ahead of the 2027 general election, highlighting its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and vice presidential candidate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, as part of its plan to rescue Nigeria.
Ikoawaji examined the need for opposition politicians to put aside their individual ambitions and work together to address the challenges facing the country. He stressed that the current situation required political leaders to prioritise the interests of Nigerians over their personal aspirations.
According to Ikoawaji, “If you look at the NDC vice presidential candidate, you will know that the NDC is out for the rescue.” He made the statement while explaining why he believed the NDC’s presidential ticket and its members demonstrated the party’s commitment to providing an alternative to the current administration.
The NDC chieftain’s remarks came amid discussions about the possibility of opposition parties working together to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 presidential election. He maintained that no single politician could address the country’s challenges alone, making cooperation among opposition figures necessary.
Ikoawaji also appealed to politicians from northern Nigeria to consider the party’s proposed power-sharing arrangement. He explained that the NDC’s presidential candidate from the South would serve for four years before power returned to the North, urging northern politicians to put aside their ambitions and support the arrangement.
He further argued that the opposition should approach the 2027 election as a rescue mission rather than a contest driven by individual political interests. He maintained that the party’s candidates and members were working towards addressing the difficulties Nigerians were experiencing.
He concluded that opposition politicians needed to unite around a common purpose to address the country’s challenges, stressing that the NDC’s presidential ticket, featuring Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, formed part of the party’s effort to offer Nigerians an alternative in 2027.
