My mother came from Osun, and I can tell you that Osun people are among The Most Brilliant -Momodu

According to Arise TV on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, Nigerian journalist and publisher Dele Momodu said the people of Osun State would not blindly follow Governor Ademola Adeleke’s political decisions, insisting that their support for the governor was based on his performance in office.

Momodu made the remarks during a television discussion while speaking about Osun politics, the electorate’s commitment to democracy and the possibility of political endorsements influencing voters ahead of future elections.

The publisher, who disclosed his family connection to the state through his mother, described Osun people as highly intelligent and politically conscious Nigerians who make independent decisions at the ballot box.

“That is not true. I’m partly from Osun. My mother came from Osun, and I can tell you that Osun people are among the most brilliant human beings you will ever find in Nigeria,” Momodu said.

He argued that the people of Osun take democratic participation seriously and are capable of deciding their political future without necessarily following the preferences of their leaders.

According to him, Adeleke earned the support of many residents because of his performance as governor, rather than because they were prepared to accept every political decision he might make.

“They are very serious about their democracy. They supported Ademola Adeleke because he performed, but that support is not unconditional,” he stated.

Momodu maintained that the electorate’s backing for Adeleke should not be interpreted as an automatic commitment to support any candidate or political party the governor might endorse.

He further argued that Osun voters could reject both Adeleke and President Bola Tinubu if the governor attempted to direct them to vote for the president.

“I can guarantee you that if he tells them today to vote for Tinubu, they will go against him and Tinubu,” Momodu said.

The comments highlight the distinction between a governor’s personal political preferences and the independent choices of voters. Momodu’s position is that electoral support is earned through performance and can be withdrawn when voters disagree with a politician’s decisions.

Adeleke, who became governor of Osun State in November 2022, has remained a prominent figure in the state’s political landscape. Tinubu, meanwhile, emerged as president after winning Nigeria’s 2023 presidential election under the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Momodu’s remarks also underscore the importance of voter autonomy in Nigeria’s democratic process, particularly as political parties and their leaders position themselves ahead of future elections.

His assessment suggests that endorsements alone may not determine electoral outcomes in a state where voters are willing to judge political leaders independently of their alliances.

Ultimately, Momodu argued that Osun voters should not be taken for granted, stressing that their support for Adeleke does not amount to an unconditional promise to follow his political choices.
