Pedri explains Barcelona’s 2nd half turnaround in 4-1 win over Galatasaray

Barcelona midfielder Pedri has explained how greater patience in possession helped the Spanish champions secure a 4-1 comeback victory over Galatasaray in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday.

The Catalan side struggled to make their possession count in the first half after Galatasaray took the lead, but produced a dominant performance after the break to claim an important victory in Istanbul.

Speaking after the match, Pedri said Barcelona had been too eager to play the final pass in the opening period instead of moving the ball around to disrupt their opponents’ defensive shape.

He explained that the team needed to circulate possession more patiently before releasing its attacking players into dangerous positions.

According to the midfielder, giving the ball one or two additional passes would create better opportunities for Barcelona’s forwards to exploit spaces around the penalty area.

Pedri highlighted the attacking influence of Lamine Yamal, Dani Olmo, Fermín López and Anthony Gordon, stressing that they could create significant problems for opposing defences when given possession in advanced areas.

Barcelona’s second-half improvement was reflected in their goals, with João Cancelo, Fermín López, Gordon and Karim Adeyemi finding the net to complete the comeback.
