UPDATE: The Mobile Police Department has released the names of two women who died Monday in a double homicide.
MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — A 911 call made the morning before a brutal double homicide suggests that the suspect was not taking his medication before the killings.
47-year-old Thomas Steele is accused of decapitating his aunt and grandmother with a chainsaw at a home on Carolina Court on Monday, Oct. 12.
According to the 911 transcript, the caller, who refers to Steele as her nephew, tells the dispatcher that he normally takes Lithium and is on SSI, but that he canceled his prescriptions.
“I don’t know what to do. He’s off his Lithium and is on SSI and he’s canceled everything. And he’s just going to be living on the street, and he’s about to leave now,” the caller said. “So, I don’t know what else to do. Um, I called 988, the hotline, and he’s not suicidal, but he is off his medication.”
The caller then said Steele is bipolar and claims he said he was “going to live for God.”
Later in the call, the dispatcher asks if the caller needs an ambulance, to which she said, “Oh no! He’s just acting out, so I don’t know what he needs.”
The dispatcher responds, “What do you mean acting out? Is he making threats toward anyone? Being harmful? Besides just being off his meds?”
To which the caller responds, “He’s calm! He’s not violent or anything. So, I guess I’ll just let it play itself out.”
Before hanging up, the dispatcher gives the caller the police department’s number.
Less than three hours later, Steele’s two family members would be found dead.
