UCL: What Atletico boss, Diego Simeone said about Super Eagles Star after 2-0 win over Man United

According to a report by Daily Post on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone has expressed his satisfaction with Ademola Lookman’s contribution following the Spanish club’s impressive 2-0 victory over Manchester United in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday night.

The Nigerian international played an important role in Atletico Madrid’s triumph after coming off the bench to score against the Premier League side, bringing an end to a frustrating period without finding the back of the net.

Lookman had struggled to make a significant attacking impact in recent matches, having gone six consecutive appearances without scoring before facing Manchester United.

However, the former Atalanta forward rediscovered his scoring touch when he reacted quickly inside the penalty area after Manchester United goalkeeper Senne Lammens failed to hold Jonathan Davies’ initial effort.

The Super Eagles attacker took advantage of the loose ball and converted the rebound, helping Atletico Madrid strengthen their position in the encounter.

Speaking to journalists after the Champions League fixture, Simeone praised Lookman’s attacking qualities and explained why he remains an important member of his squad despite his recent difficulties.

The Argentine manager highlighted the Nigerian’s ability to score goals, produce impressive attacking numbers and create problems for opposition defenders during individual battles.

Simeone also acknowledged that Lookman has not consistently demonstrated the level of performance expected from him this season.

Nevertheless, the Atletico Madrid coach believes the forward possesses the necessary qualities to become a more influential figure in the team’s attacking department.

He was particularly pleased with Lookman’s awareness during the goal, as the Nigerian showed determination and excellent positioning to capitalise on the opportunity created by the goalkeeper’s save.

The Atletico Madrid manager further emphasised the importance of securing maximum points against Manchester United, describing the victory as a necessary result for his team.

Before Tuesday’s encounter, Lookman had managed only one goal across all competitions this season, raising concerns about his attacking productivity.

His latest contribution could therefore provide a significant confidence boost as he attempts to regain the impressive form that previously established him as one of Europe’s dangerous attacking players.

For Atletico Madrid, the victory represented another positive result in their Champions League campaign, while Manchester United were left disappointed after failing to produce the attacking quality required to overcome their Spanish opponents.

Lookman will now be hoping to maintain his scoring momentum in upcoming fixtures and convince Simeone that he deserves more opportunities in the starting lineup.

The Nigerian forward’s ability to build on this performance could prove crucial as Atletico Madrid continue their pursuit of success in domestic and European competitions.
