GH¢90 Million Gone Into 24-Hour Economy, But Ghanaians Still See Nothing

A member of the NPP Communications Team, Issah Mohammed, has questioned the NDC government after it spent GH¢90 million on its flagship 24-hour economy policy with no tangible results to show.

According to him, the NDC has spent GH¢90 million on the 24-hour economy, yet Ghanaians are still waiting to see any tangible results.

The government told Parliament that GH¢110 million was allocated for the 24-hour economy in the 2026 budget. But when you check the appendix of the budget, only GH¢90 million is actually allocated towards the 24-Hour Economy.

Out of that amount, GH¢70 million is for goods and services and only GH¢20 million is for CAPEX. This is the main policy the NDC said would change Ghana’s economy, but the money put into it is small compared to its promise.

For comparison, government allocated GH¢292 million for sanitary pads while the policy that is supposed to create jobs got only GH¢110 million.

The 24-Hour Economy was presented as the heart of the NDC’s economic plan. It promised 1.7 million decent jobs by the end of 2028. The idea was simple: allow factories, shops and businesses to work three shifts, day and night.

Today, factories are not working at night. Shops are still closing early. Young people are still jobless. Traders at Makola, Kejetia and Agbogbloshie say they have not felt any 24-hour economy.

If GH¢90 million has truly been spent, where are the jobs? Where are the factories working 24 hours? Where is the night shift?

Issah Mohammed says this is not just poor planning, it is a clear sign that the policy has failed.

Ghanaians were told the 24-hour economy would bring more money, more jobs and cheaper goods. Instead, we have spent millions and we are still waiting.

The simple question on the mind of every Ghanaian is this: If GH¢90 million is gone already and we cannot see one benefit, what will happen to the rest of the money?

Until the NDC can show one market, one factory, or one district where the 24-hour economy is really working, Ghanaians have every right to say the money is wasted.
