Fire has destroyed several shops at Circle in Accra.

The fire started in the early hours of Friday evening and spread quickly, destroying many shops and properties. Thick black smoke was seen rising into the sky from far away.

The cause of the fire is not yet known. Fire officials have asked the public to stay away from the area to avoid injuries from smoke or collapsing structures while firefighting efforts continue.

But witnesses say the fire spread fast because many of the shops had highly flammable materials inside.

An eyewitness, a carpenter who also knows electrical work, said he rushed to the scene after his wife informed him about the fire. He said he tried to turn off the power lines and fuse to help control the situation.

Firefighters from the Ghana National Fire Service were quickly sent to the area and are still working to put the fire out.
