PM graces Uhuru Torch Race climax with call to uphold Mwl Nyerere’s principles of unity, peace, patriotism
SUMBAWANGA: PRIME Minister Mwigulu Nchemba has urged Tanzanians to uphold the principles of unity, peace, love, justice and patriotism established by the Father of the Nation, Mwalimu Julius Kambarage Nyerere, stressing that these values should be reflected in citizens’ daily actions.
Speaking ahead of the Vice President’s address at the 2026 Uhuru Torch Race climax at Mandela Stadium in Sumbawanga, Rukwa Region, Dr Nchemba said the message of the Uhuru Torch should be incorporated into the daily lives of Tanzanians rather than being confined to official commemorations.
He said the 27th anniversary of Mwalimu Nyerere’s death provided an opportunity to reflect on the principles he championed, including accountability, integrity and human dignity, which remain essential to strengthening national unity and development.

The Prime Minister also congratulated the young people who carried the Uhuru Torch this year, led by Wazo Michael Mngonda, for fulfilling their responsibilities and spreading messages of peace, development and patriotism across the country.
The celebrations coincided with the climax of National Youth Week, providing an opportunity to remind citizens, particularly young people, of their responsibility to protect the country’s core values and uphold the principles established by Tanzania’s founding leaders.
