2026 Security Forces Pay Revealed: See How Much Police, Immigration and Fire Officers Earn in Ghana

The monthly earnings of security personnel in Ghana differ across agencies and ranks in 2026. Pay is influenced by an officer’s experience, position and institution.

The country’s main security agencies are the Ghana Police Service, Ghana Immigration Service, Ghana Prisons Service and Ghana National Fire Service, which oversee public safety, border control, correctional facilities, firefighting and emergency services.

Within the Ghana Police Service, recruits at the entry level reportedly receive between GHS 1,500 and GHS 2,500 each month. Officers earn progressively more as they advance through the ranks.

Those in senior positions, including commissioners and other top executives, may earn between GHS 10,000 and GHS 20,000 monthly.

The Ghana Immigration Service uses a similar salary structure, with earnings rising as personnel move from junior positions to senior roles. Officers at the superintendent, assistant director, deputy director and director levels receive higher pay, while senior management salaries can reach about GHS 8,000 per month.

In the Ghana Prisons Service, entry-level personnel reportedly earn monthly salaries ranging from GHS 1,500 to GHS 2,102. Pay increases with promotion and responsibility, with the highest-ranking officials earning an estimated GHS 11,000 to GHS 14,000 monthly.

Meanwhile, junior employees of the Ghana National Fire Service are reported to earn between GHS 1,198 and GHS 2,424 per month. Those in senior positions generally receive higher compensation depending on their rank, experience and duties.

Security workers may also benefit from additional provisions, including housing assistance, transport allowances, healthcare and special-duty payments. Although salary concerns remain, careers in these agencies offer opportunities for advancement, relatively stable employment and the chance to serve the public.
