Speaker Suspends Charcoal Ban Enforcement, MPs Demand Clarity

KAMPALA — Speaker of Parliament Jacob Oboth has temporarily suspended enforcement of the charcoal ban, directing government to present a report on the restrictions and the availability of alternative cooking fuels on October 21.Oboth-Oboth said enforcement would be difficult without affordable alternatives for households dependent on charcoal, questioning the reach of the government’s gas cylinder distribution programme.
