KwaZulu-Natal police have launched a manhunt for a suspect accused of killing three female Boxer employees in the grocery chain’s Eshowe shop at the weekend.

KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Col Robert Netshiunda confirmed that police in Eshowe are tracing a suspect who fatally shot the three women.

“Reports indicate that the suspect, who is a former employee of the shop, had gone to the shop for his internal [disciplinary] hearing. The suspect allegedly produced a firearm and shot three people who were declared dead at the scene,” said Netshiunda.

A manhunt for the suspect is under way, and the matter is under investigation.

In a statement on its Facebook page, Boxer confirmed the incident, which it said occurred on Saturday.

“Our heartfelt condolences remain with their families and loved ones, whom we have been supporting since this tragedy unfolded. We also continue to provide care and support to our colleagues who have been deeply affected by this tragedy,” read the statement.

The shop also pledged its full co-operation with investigators as police hunt for the suspect.

Police appealed to anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of the gunman to call 035-473-4211 or 082-557-6033, or Crime Stop at 08600-10111.
