Cockroach Janata Party leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka have been sent to five days of judicial custody after allegedly attempting to enter the de-notified protest zone at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar. Police claim they violated peace-bond conditions, while the party’s counsel has challenged this account. The leaders maintain they only waved the national flag and raised patriotic slogans. The incident followed Delhi Police’s decision to withdraw Jantar Mantar’s designated protest-site status and identify alternative venues. The Supreme Court has emphasised that peaceful assembly is a fundamental right, while stressing the need for lawful regulation and protection of public movement.
