Tinubu Nominates New NERC Chairman and Commissioners
According to reports by Leadership on Wednesday October 14 2026 President Bola Tinubu has nominated Engr. Abdullahi Garba Ramat as the new Chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission. He also appointed two new commissioners to strengthen the agency’s leadership.
The nominations form part of ongoing efforts to stabilise and improve the power sector. Ramat is expected to bring technical expertise to the role as the commission continues to oversee electricity regulation, tariff processes and market development.
The appointments come at a time when the government is prioritising reforms aimed at increasing power generation, improving distribution efficiency and attracting private investment into the sector. Officials have repeatedly linked reliable electricity supply to broader economic recovery and industrial growth.
Stakeholders in the energy industry are watching the transition closely. The National Assembly is expected to screen the nominees in line with constitutional requirements. The changes at NERC are seen as another step in the administration’s attempt to address long-standing challenges in Nigeria’s electricity market and deliver more stable supply to homes and businesses.
